Rancho Romero Elementary School

A few words from Pledge to Humanity:

I like to think of Pledge to Humanity as a bridge between the children in our community and those in need here and all around the world.

Equally important is the gift of empowering our children to share of themselves and understand the true meaning of giving and personally making a difference in the lives of others.

 Sincerely, Gaby

Visiting Our Sister School

Students from Rancho Romero went to visit their sister school students in Richmond. This is a Pledge to Humanity tradition to do this once a year with a student council so they know and build friendships with their sister school.

The students visit Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms and read to them and hang out. We brought snacks waters, and the kids spent lunch together and enjoyed group activities like facepainting.

Rancho Thanksgiving Food Drive

Wednesday night’s Thanksgiving food drive at Rancho was a great success! We were able to get 22 bagged meals for our sister school, Coronado Elementary, and an additional 66 bags that will be delivered to Monument Crisis Center. We also received $660 in gift cards, so each Coronado bag will include a $30 gift card to Safeway!

Thank you SO MUCH to every family who volunteered or brought items for the drive. Your generosity will impact many families in our community! HUGE thanks to Wendy Higgins and Ginny Peterson. We’d also like to thank Jackie Waters and Carolyn Kaneda, as well as Tatiana, Kathy, and Sarah in the front office, who were so helpful and excited about the event. You guys are amazing!

Walk-a-Thon for Nepal

Rancho Romero Student Council held their annual walk-a-thon this year to raise money for the Nepal Disaster. They did an amazing job setting up, walking, smiling, and having fun! Rancho Romero and Pledge to Humanity kids raised a total of $7001.00 to send to Save the Children, who helps sponsor and protect the children of Nepal after the earthquake. The PTH Sharing group raised $461 at their lemonade stand and decided to donate it to the effort of the walk-a-thon! We are so proud of these kids and their compassionate hearts! A big THANK YOU to everyone who was involved in this walk-a-thon event.

Rancho Romero Elementary School has been an important part of Pledge to Humanity for many years now. The school has been involved in many community activities. Pledge to Humanity is so proud to partner with a school that has such a generous student body and compassionate heart. Below are two videos that show Walk-A-Thons held by Rancho Romero to benefit a young lady with cancer and children with cleft palate in Mexico.

In 2013, the Rancho Romero student council, in partnership with all of the students at their school, and several local podiatrists, collected 543 pairs of socks to benefit troops serving overseas. These socks were added to care packages that were sent over courtesy of Blue Star Moms. Thank you to the doctors and students who participated. We’d especially like to thank Dr. Mark Wolpa from Bay Area Foot & Laser Podiatry Group for his assistance in making this sock drive a success for Pledge to Humanity, Rancho Romero, Blue Star Moms, and our hard working service men and women serving abroad!

In 2012, the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that followed killed hundreds of people and left many entire cities in ruins. Students at Rancho Romero Elementary School held fundraisers to support the victims in Japan with “Lunch for Japan” and a group of kids from Stone Valley Middle school “Cupcakes for Japan”. Thanks to these, mainly kid-run fundraisers Pledge to Humanity donated $6,560 to UNICEF and Red Cross working in the aftermath of the tragedy in Japan.

Due to the crisis in Haiti, in 2012, Pledge to Humanity worked together with the Rancho Romero Student Council and many parent volunteers to put together a fundraiser for Haiti relief called A Lunch for Haiti. Over 30 parents and students of the Rancho Romero Student Council joined together to serve a soup lunch to all 563 students. Instead of bringing a lunch or buying a lunch, the students donated money to this great cause. Rancho Romero students raised $3,406 and Pledge to Humanity contributed $1,000, bringing to a grand total of $4,406!

During the 2012 Halloween season, the kids in the community collected almost 200 gently used Halloween costumes. The Student Council from Rancho Romero Elementary did a great job taking part in this costume drive. The costumes were donated to several local foster agencies.
