Pledge to Humanity’s founder, Gaby Ghorbani, grew up in Mexico. As a little girl, she witnessed the injustices of children begging in the streets. She distinctly remembers one day: “I was on my way home from school and I saw this little boy selling gum. I couldn’t stop thinking about him. It broke my heart to imagine him alone and hungry.” That moment sparked something in Gaby that never left her.
When Gaby became a mother, she made it her priority to teach her own children that everyone – regardless of age – has the potential to give to those in need. It could be as simple as giving a smile or a warm blanket on a cold night. She wanted all children to understand that by thinking of others, they could make a difference in their world. That’s when Gaby realized that she could fill a greater need by empowering children and and their families to give and volunteer.
In 2009, Gaby dedicated herself to her passion full-time and launched Pledge to Humanity.
Today, Pledge to Humanity is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to youth volunteer engagement and inspiring children to dream of ways to make a difference. What began as a mother’s goal to teach her three children to give to those less fortunate has grown into 2,500 inspired youth ambassadors throughout the East Bay. They are partnered with more than 50 non-profit service organizations throughout the Bay Area as well as global partnerships in Haiti, Ecuador, India, Kenya and Mexico. We believe that this is only the beginning of this labor of love.
